Views from the cemetery of St Martins in Canterbury overlooking Canterbury Cathedral and within the boundary of the World Heritage Site. A fascinating history stretching back over 1700 years from the earliest remains of the Roman mausoleum outside the Roman Civitas of Durovernum Cantiacorum, which was later rebuilt and converted to a church in the late seventh century. It is the oldest church in the English speaking world and is clearly of historic, architectural and communal interest. The Roman brickwork is still visible on the side elevations.
The nearby St Ausugstines Abbey was also constructed in the seventh century and you can view the remains of the Anglo Saxon portico, rotunda, St Pancras church and later Norman and Tudor additions.
